The Rylo camera is the best action camera available.
@TechDadCO
The Rylo camera is the best action camera available. Is it the most durable? No. Does it have the longest battery life? No. Is it waterproof? Sort of (with the Adventure Case). So you are probably wondering why this is the best camera available…

…in the typical theme for many products reviewed on TechDadCO.com, the Rylo just keeps getting better…
Because it shoots excellent video and 360 stills with butter smooth software stabilization, without any hassle of being an expert photographer/videographer. Just point and shoot. The magic of Rylo is the software! And in the typical theme for many products reviewed on TechDadCO.com, the Rylo just keeps getting better with software improvements and enhancements.
Here are the basic steps to create a video on the Rylo:
- Put Rylo on selfie stick or other mount (like helmet, bike handlebar, ski pole) of choice
- Turn on Rylo
- Press record on Rylo
- Capture your intended footage (no need to point the camera at the subject – it’s recording 360 degrees!)
- Stop recording
- Plug short included cable from Rylo to SmartPhone
- Edit the video in SmartPhone Rylo App (This is really the magic…and it keeps getting better with software releases)
- Once you are happy with the framing and edits all done on your phone, export your masterpiece
- Upload to Instagram/Facebook to share
- Repeat process at top for additional short videos
Here is a Rylo example when mounted on a helmet!
Here’s one with a selfie stick mount connected to a backpack!
And here is one on a traditional selfie stick in hand! (The stick is software erased automatically)
Yes these are from Rylo’s Instagram, but they are NOT highly edited. See some of the quick clips below from video I have captured and edited at the end of this blog post.
Rylo also has some great other non-adventurous use cases.
But before I show those examples, Rylo also had some great other non-adventurous use cases. One great example occurred at a home my friend was building. He wanted to grab some photos of all the rooms in his home before the drywall was put up, in case he need to mount something and wants to avoid a water pipe or other steel conduit. Now he had a 360 degree images of every room in the home!
Here is a sample of one of those photos posted to Facebook (yep Rylo images natively upload to Facebook and YouTube in 360!)
This is a GREAT use case for a general contractor or home remodeler. This would also be a killer camera for a Realtor to capture a simple walkthrough video of a home, allowing you to point to specific points throughout the video to highlight features in the voiceover!

Rylo is still a “small” company, but they were founded by past Instagram engineers, wanting to create a video experience as simple as it is to take a photo, apply a filter, and share as is on Instagram. I think they get pretty close to this goal with video format…and it will only continue to get better! This follows the theme of my opinion piece on “Future proofing tech” since the camera continues to gain features that add functionality.
Photos can be captured and a “tiny world” created (You can also do this with video!)

It also makes a great selfie camera

Some underwater footage with the Adventure Case and Snowmobiling with butter smooth video (see my daughter bouncing on back?)
TechDadCO’s Take
Rylo makes an amazing camera package combining hardware and excellent software! it should be considered for all your adventures and not-so adventures (Any of my real estate friends out there?).
