If you are reading this, you likely have already considered an outdoor TV. First of all, the Apollo Enclosures are really great…but they do require a bit of DIY and assembly. But with the ability to buy a quality, yet cheap, indoor TV (like this TLC 50″ 4K with built-in Roku for only $299!) and mount it inside this weather resistant outdoor enclosure (available with fan and heating module), is a great “bang for the buck” win. I’ve had mine for over 3 years now and love it!

The biggest names in purpose built Outdoor TVs are Skyvue and SunBriteTV. They both make great products (that are also pricey!), so if you just want a quality outdoor TV with lots of options (shade/direct sun/etc), definitely check the SunBriteTV brand out. But if you want a more cost effective option that performs great and allows you to add ANY indoor TV, read on about the Apollo options!

I’ve had the 50″ Apollo Enclosure with a Samsung 1080p LCD Basic TV installed outdoors for the past 3 years (as of May 2019) through Colorado 100 degree baking summers and frigid sub-zero winters, and the $299 Samsung TV is continuing to work without a hitch! (There are NOW much better but still cheap TVs like this TLC with Roku)
I liked the flexibility of being able to buy a great budget TV (that could be easily replaced in the future if I wanted) that could fit inside the variety of enclosure options from Apollo (up to 86″!) You do need to make sure the dimensions for the TV you choose will fit inside, but there is a fair amount of wiggle-room for nearly all modern flat screens. And with prices for 4k TVs at all time lows, this is the no brainer way forward.

You obviously do need power close by, but the Apollo Enclosure does come with a small power strip mounted inside the enclosure so you can also install (with plenty of space to spare) an AppleTV or Roku or FireStick for easy streaming! Also, I installed an additional HDMI cable (along with a HDMI female-female adapter/extender that is fed out the water resistant port on the back of the TV) that allows for easy ad-hoc connection to the TV like a video game system or other HDMI device (like a tablet or other streaming device) to display on the TV. You could also easily mount a soundbar for improved audio, but the Apollo Enclosure has downward facing mesh panels that transmit the TV audio quite well (but those are also the only place NOT water resistant, so when you are cleaning and hosing off the TV, do NOT spray upwards).
